The densities of aqueous solutions of D-mannitol and D-sorbitol were m
easured up to the concentration of 1.0 mol kg-1 in the temperature ran
ge from 293 to 318 K. On the basis of these volumetric data, the appar
ent molar volumes, the partial molar expansibilities, as well as the t
hermal expansion coefficients were determined. The apparent molar volu
mes were found to be concentration independent and their temperature d
ependence non-linear. In addition, the difference in solvation Gibbs f
ree energy of the solvent in solution relative to the pure solvent was
calculated, and some virial interaction coefficients for the excess p
roperties of solutions were evaluated and interpreted in terms of solu
te-solute and solute-solvent interactions.
