The variation in the quenching rate constants, k(q), of Cr(NN)33+ wit
h the change in the structure of organic sulphides in deaerated aceton
itrile solutions in explained with Marcus model. The retardation in k(
q) values for sulphides with bulky alkyl groups in RSPh is accounted f
or in terms of change of electron transfer distance. The formation of
oxidised products in aerated solutions is explained by the formation o
f singlet oxygen in the system.
