Jl. Gineste et al., GRAFTING OF ACRYLIC-ACID WITH DIETHYLENEGLYCOL DIMETHACRYLATE ONTO RADIOPEROXIDED POLYETHYLENE, Journal of applied polymer science, 48(12), 1993, pp. 2113-2122
Acrylic acid and diethyleneglycol-dimethacrylate are grafted onto 25 m
um low-density and 130 mum high-density polyethylene previously peroxi
dized by irradiation in air under the electron beams of an accelerator
. Mohr's salt and methylene blue are used to prevent monomer homopolym
erization. It is shown that sulfuric acid and Mohr's salt, respectivel
y, enhance acrylic acid and diethylene glycol-dimethacrylate grafting.
When they are combined, the influence of the monomer content on graft
ing kinetics is studied. Monomer content is determined by exchange cap
acity measurements.
