We tested a small-cell drift chamber filled with a mixture of 50% heli
um and 50% ethane in a 1 T magnetic field. A good spatial resolution (
sigma(x) = 88 +/- 2 mum) and a good dE/dx resolution (sigma(dE/dx)/dE/
dx = 10.1 +/- 0.2% with 10 samplings) were obtained. The energy loss a
s a function of betagamma was measured.
