The electrical conductivity, magnetic susceptibility and thermoelectri
c power in the liquid In-As2Te3 system have been obtained as a functio
n of temperature and composition. X-ray diffraction measurements for l
iquid In2As2Te3 were carried out to investigate the bonding nature bet
ween In and Te atoms. The system exhibits a sharp minimum of conductiv
ity, rapid increase in diamagnetism and inversion of the sign of the t
hermoelectric power around the composition of In2AS2Te3. However, thes
e anomalies almost disappear at higher temperature. The distribution f
unction obtained by the diffraction measurement suggests that the In-T
e bonds are comparatively covalent, by contrast with the ionic Tl-Te b
onds. This is also supported by the magnitude of the diamagnetic contr
ibution in the system determined from conductivity and susceptibility
data on the basis of a delocalized approximation for electrons.
