Ad. North et Md. Fairchild, MEASURING COLOR-MATCHING FUNCTIONS .2. NEW DATA FOR ASSESSING OBSERVER METAMERISM, Color research and application, 18(3), 1993, pp. 163-170
The Munsell Color Science Laboratory model and visual colorimeter for
collecting color-matching-function data were described in Part I of th
is-article. The model and instrument have demonstrated results that co
rrelate well with data collected using the National Research Council o
f Canada's Trichromator. Color-matching-function data for 18 observers
and 20 repetitions on a single observer have been obtained using the
Munsell Color Science Laboratory visual colorimeter. The variability f
or the single observer for 20 repetitions over a month's time was foun
d to be similar to the uncertainty of matching within a single measure
ment session. The variability of the 18 observers was found to be much
larger. The results were compared with the CIE Standard Deviate Obser
ver. The variability of the CIE Standard Deviate Observer was on the o
rder of the single observer variability while the multiple observer va
riability was significantly larger.
