Iu. Haq et Rm. Carlson, SULFUR UPTAKE AND NUTRIENT COMPOSITION OF PRUNE TREES AS AFFECTED BY SULFUR APPLICATION, Journal of plant nutrition, 16(5), 1993, pp. 933-952
One year-old trees of Marianna 2624 (Prunus cerasifera X P. munsoniana
), grafted with French prunes (P. domestica) were grown in the greenho
use in pots containing vermiculite and supplied with graded amounts of
sulfate-sulfur (SO4-S) to study the sulfur (S) distribution in the tr
ees and elemental composition as affected by S additions. Leaf, stem,
bark, wood, and root samples were analyzed for different S fractions.
Tissue nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and boron (B) concentrations decr
eased with S application, and that of potassium (K) and iron (Fe) were
increased. Roots and leaves contained higher concentrations of S than
the other tissues. Sulfur concentrations increased with the shoot hei
ght.
