Abstract
Graphite/epoxy (T300/934) prepreg is used to fabricate tapered box bea ms with a taper angle of 2-degrees between the top and bottom walls. T he prepreg is cured on a segmented steel core using a hot-press. A scr ew arrangement is used to apply curing pressure in the horizontal dire ction, while the platens of the hot-press apply pressure in the vertic al direction. The inplane bending stiffness of the beam is determined by 3-point bend test and is found to be in agreement with theory.
