A calibration technique based on a low-power spread-spectrum tone to a
ssist demodulation is presented. The technique does not impose any req
uirements on signal modulation, spectral shaping, nor on channel spaci
ng, and is highly spectrum efficent. The performance is analysed in th
e presence of cochannel and adjacent channel interference, diffused-mu
ltipath fading and additive white Gaussian noise, and results are pres
ented for M-PSK (M = 2, 4, 8).
