DOES NOVARA KNOLL EXIST

Recently, there have been increasing doubts of the existence of a seam ount ''Novara Knoll'', between Kerguelen and Amsterdam Islands, becaus e any hydrodynamical signature in favor of such a topographic relief h as never been revealed from our previous analysis of satellite-trackin g buoy data as well as historical hydrographic data. Checking of satel lite-driven geopotential anomaly and historical bathymetric charts for the area did not show anything more. A precise bathymetric survey ove r the feature made in April 1991 on board the Marion Dufresne confirme d definitively the non-existence of ''Novara Knoll''.
