RECONSTRUCTION OF THE SILHOUETTE AFTER GA STROPLASTY

The authors report their experience in reconstruction of the silhouett e in patients experiencing rapid and marked weight loss after calibrat ed vertical gastroplasty, usually greater than 50 kg. They present a o ne-stage strategy for reconstruction of the silhouette, combining repa ir of the abdomen, waist and thighs. The serious nature of surgical pr ocedure requires a very precise preoperative assessment and, most impo rtantly, very detailed information of the patient concerning this oper ation and the expected results. Very intensive preoperative, intraoper ative and postoperative psychological support is essential.
