Abstract
A new method for generating optical pulses is demonstrated experimenta lly. The pulses are created from a phase modulaed CW signal which is p ropagated through an optical fibre under the influence of stimulated B rillouin scattering. Repetition rates much larger than the Brillouin l inewidth have been achieved.
