A highly ordered structure for a poly[methyl-3-(9-carbazolyl)propyl]si
loxane film was obtained on a glass substrate. Reflectance and transmi
ttance spectra in the spectral region 30 000-400 cm-1 were measured an
d the dispersion of the refractive index n and the extinction coeffici
ent k in the visible and near-infrared regions were obtained from thes
e measurements. Surface electromagnetic wave (SEW) measurements were c
arried out. The propagation length L of the SEW was measured both para
llel and perpendicular to the main brain axis and some anisotropy was
observed. The absolute values of L were determined to be about several
hundred micrometers.
