''Judgability'' discriminates people who are open and knowable from th
ose who are closed and enigmatic. The current study investigated this
individual difference characteristic and its personality and behaviora
l correlates. Subjects (N = 164) were videotaped interacting with a pa
rtner of the opposite sex. They completed several personality measures
, and each subject was described by 2 friends. Three indices-subject-p
eer agreement, peer-peer agreement, and peer-behavior agreement-formed
a reliable composite index of judgability. The correlates of judgabil
ity included extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional
stability, and, more generally, psychological adjustment.
