Abstract
We have investigated cytogenetically 4 local recurrences, with 26 mont hs between the first and the last, of a fibrosarcoma. Cytogenetic intr atumor heterogeneity was detected on all 4 occasions, allowing us to f ollow the clonal karyotypic evolution with time. A total of 13 karyoty pically abnormal, hypodiploid, related clones were identified. The chr omosomal changes found in the first sample persisted, while additional aberrations were acquired in the later recurrences. The increased cyt ogenetic complexity paralleled the clinical and histopathologic tumor progression.
