Hj. Finol et al., NEUROMUSCULAR PATHOLOGY IN THE PARANEOPLASTIC PHENOMENON ASSOCIATED WITH CERVIX CARCINOMA, Journal of experimental & clinical cancer research, 12(1), 1993, pp. 53-58
A quadriceps femoris muscle biopsy from a 65 year-old female with a no
n-metastatic carcinoma of cervix was studied by light and transmission
electron microscopy. Different degrees of muscle fibre atrophy were o
bserved and end-plates and motor nerves presented varied alterations.
Intramuscular capillaries were also abnormal. A mononuclear cell infil
tration was represented by lymphocytes, macrophages and mast cells. Th
is study suggests a dual, neural and vascular, origin for remote cance
r effects on skeletal muscle.
