Abstract
A train of short and nearly transform-limited pulses (3.6 ps) is gener ated from a 1.55 mum gain-switched distributed feedback laser by fibre compression. These are the shortest pulses generated at 1.55 mum by u sing a linear fibre compression technique. The bias current dependence of pulse width and time bandwidth product is also investigated.
