A smooth and monotonic phase variation technique in combined multiple
amplitude and multiple phase modulation schemes, is investigated. Comp
uter simulation is used to show that the proposed technique achieves a
20% reduction in the mainlobe width of the transmitted signal and sup
presses the sidelobe level by 20 dB, as compared with conventional tec
hniques, for abrupt phase transitions.
