We correlated consent granting for release of standardized test scores
and willingness to be followed up in longitudinal research with measu
res of the five-factor model of personality in introductory psychology
students. As predicted, agreeableness and openness to experience pred
icted volunteering in both situations. Extraversion also predicted wil
lingness to be followed up in a longitudinal study. The results are co
nsistent with the Rosenthal-Rosnow (1975) review of the literature on
volunteer effects and extend that literature by relating it to the fiv
e-factor model of personality.
