Abstract
The physical properties of C60 and general fullerenes are discussed wi th particular regard to group theoretical concepts. We summarize the r ole of group theory in specifying the multiplet electronic structures for C60, doped C60 and photoexcited neutral C60, as well as the multip let levels and the vibronic interactions for the photoluminescence spe ctra of excitonic levels.
