U. Kositanont et al., INTERACTION OF RESPIRATORY SYNCYTIAL VIRUS WITH HUMAN CORD BLOOD MONONUCLEAR-CELLS, Asian Pacific Journal of Allergy and Immunology, 10(2), 1992, pp. 135-139
This study on the interaction between respiratory syncytial virus (RSV
) and human cord blood mononuclear cells shows that RSV replication ca
n occur in neonatal macrophages. Although neonatal lymphocytes were no
t supportive of RSV replication, exposure to RSV resulted in significa
nt inhibition of mitogen-induced transformation. Both adult and neonat
al NK cell cytotoxicity were unaffected by exposure to RSV. These resu
lts suggest that RSV has preferential effects on human cord blood mono
nuclear cell subpopulations.
