SELF ANTIBIO - AN EXPERT SYSTEM FOR ANTIMICROBIAL AGENTS CHEMOTHERAPYMANAGEMENT - CONCLUSIONS AFTER AN EVALUATION WITH 509 CASES

SELF/ANTIBIO is an expert system conceived in the year 1988 which must be helpfull for the non specialized physician in the antibiotic presc ription. It is an application of the expert system generator SELF deve loped in the Medical Informatics Department of the University of Medec ine in Nancy. A first evaluation of this system in the year 1988 was f ull of promise. In the first part, the principles of working of SELF/A NTIBIO are described. In the second part, the results of a large evalu ation are reported (509 cases), allowing to objective some imperfectio n and to correct them. The results are very satisfying with 99 % of su itable responses. The system permit to correct 90 % of the prescriptio n's errors of the physicians without modifying even an inadequate answ er when the physician has initially a suitable response.
