Jf. Dormaar et Bd. Walker, ELEMENTAL CONTENT OF ANIMAL LICKS ALONG THE EASTERN SLOPES OF THE ROCKY-MOUNTAINS IN SOUTHERN ALBERTA, CANADA, Canadian Journal of Soil Science, 76(4), 1996, pp. 509-512
A number of animal licks, representing dry earth exposures, muck licks
, and rock face licks, were sampled and analysed for 12 elements by us
ing a sulphuric acid-hydrogen peroxide method to simulate digesta. The
various types of licks may serve different needs. Sodium, magnesium,
manganese, iron, and copper may draw animals to specific sites.
