P. Chamouard et al., IDIOPATHIC PANCREATITIS ASSOCIATED WITH COMMON VARIABLE IMMUNODEFICIENCY, European journal of gastroenterology & hepatology, 5(5), 1993, pp. 393-395
Objective: Description of the clinical presentation of idiopathic chro
nic pancreatitis associated with common variable immunodeficiency. Pat
ient: A 13-year-old boy with a 3-year history of chronic pancreatitis
complicated by a large pseudocyst and affected by common variable immu
nodeficiency.Interventions: Laparotomy and an anastomosis between the
pseudocyst and the jejunum were performed. Main outcome measures: Reso
lution of computed tomographic and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopanc
reatographic images. Three duodenal biopsies. HLA typing and test for
antinuclear antibodies. Results: Absence of identifiable and well know
n causes of pancreatitis. Conclusions: Chronic pancreatitis may be ass
ociated with common variable immunodeficiency in young patients and al
though the relationship between both diseases remains unclear, an auto
immune process may be involved.
