ERADICATION OF ENZOOTIC BOVINE LEUKOSIS IN BELGIUM - RESULTS OF THE MASS DETECTION ON THE NATIONAL CATTLE POPULATION IN 1989, 1990 AND 1991

In 1988, the veterinary authorities have worked out an accelerated era dication program of enzootic bovine leukosis in Belgium that must be e xtended to a five year period and begin the first january 1989. A work ing group was created at the NVRI to analyse pooled sera from all the cattle population and to centralize the results obtained with others m ethods such as: purchase tests: various controls, trace back, etc. The present paper give the complete results of the mass detection of bovi ne leukosis carry out at the NVRI. These results permit us to estimate the epidemic situation of the national cattle population such as she was when the eradication program begun.
