Matrices of molecular hydrogen isotopes pure or diluted in argon and d
oped with Hg have been irradiated with a KrF laser and studied by FTIR
spectroscopy. Hg pumped to the P-3(1) state reacts with H-2, D2 and H
D, giving new molecules: HgH2, HgD2 and HHgD. The three fundamental vi
brational modes were identified and a linear symmetrical geometry is c
onfirmed.
