2,3-Bis(methoxymethyl)-7-oxanorbornene was polymerised in water plus a
t least 9 g dm-3 Synperonic F127 by ring-opening metathesis polymerisa
tion (ROMP) initiated by commercial ruthenium trichloride. Stable disp
ersions with particle radii 0.03 mum or less were formed. Polymer mole
cular weights and molecular weight ratios by gel permeation chromatogr
aphy (M(pk) > 10(5), M(w)BAR/M(n)BAR approximately 2) were similar to
those found earlier for ROMP of the same monomer in solution in aqueou
s ethanol.
