A. Amoddeo et al., CARBON AUGER LINESHAPES ON NI(111) SURFACE - EVIDENCE FOR NEW PHASES, Journal of electron spectroscopy and related phenomena, 62(3), 1993, pp. 263-272
Carbon atoms chemisorbed on a Ni(111) surface were studied by Auger an
d electron energy loss spectroscopies. The inspection of the carbon KV
V Auger line for different values of ethylene pressure and exposure cl
early indicates the formation of intermediate phases between pure carb
idic and graphitic ones in the 10(-6)-10(-5) Torr range. Both Auger an
d loss measurements confirm that finally a graphitic-like overlayer gr
ows on the Ni(111) substrate for the highest exposure.
