Abstract
The relationship between the vertical organic carbon flux F(C) at the depths 100 - 1000 m and the primary production P(p) in the euphotic zo ne can be presented in the form F(C) = AP(p)z-1, where z is the depth and the constant A presents the combination of parameters that charact erize the structure and functioning of a community of pelagic organism s. The results of calculations are in good agreement with the measurem ents made with sedimentation traps.
