Kh. Chen et Rh. Pletcher, SIMULATION OF 3-DIMENSIONAL LIQUID SLOSHING FLOWS USING A STRONGLY IMPLICIT CALCULATION PROCEDURE, AIAA journal, 31(5), 1993, pp. 901-910
A coupled strongly implicit solution strategy for unsteady three-dimen
sional free surface flows has been developed based on an artificial co
mpressibility formulation for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equatio
ns. A pseudotime term has been used in the continuity equation to perm
it time-accurate calculations to be achieved. The scheme appears capab
le of tracking the free surface reasonably accurately inside a partial
ly filled spherical container undergoing a general rotating motion cha
racteristic of that experienced by a spin-stabilized satellite. Five d
ifferent free surface calculations have been presented. Some of the re
sults exhibit an interesting Reynolds number dependent oscillatory beh
avior that is believed to be physical, although no experimental result
s appear to be available for verification to date.
