An irreversible one-pot enzymatic synthesis of sialyl oligosaccharides
has been achieved with a beta-galactosidase-catalyzed galactosylation
of an acceptor followed by a sialyltransferase-catalyzed sialylation
with regeneration in situ of CMP-sialic acid.
