Bv. Brown et Dh. Feener, LIFE-HISTORY AND IMMATURE STAGES OF RHYNCOPHOROMYIA-MACULINEURA, AN ANT-PARASITIZING PHORID FLY (DIPTERA, PHORIDAE) FROM PERU, Journal of Natural History, 27(2), 1993, pp. 429-434
Third-instar larva, puparium and life history of Rhyncophoromyia macul
ineura are described. Females of this species parasitize injured worke
rs of Camponotus sericeiventris and possibly also those of Dolichoderu
s lugens. Larvae develop in the host abdomen, one per host. Limited li
fe history data indicate that this way of life might be shared by othe
r species of this genus.
