The synthesis of a receptor possessing two divergent hydrophobic cavit
ies was achieved by fusing two p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene units in cone
conformation using silicon atoms. Crystal structure analysis and NMR
studies proved the centrosymetric nature of the compound with a 3.75 a
ngstrom distance between the two tetra-coordinated silicon atoms.
