Abstract
In rats subjected to a superior cervical ganglionectomy (SCGx) or sham -operation 10 days earlier and injected with EDTA, the hypocalcemia ac hieved was undistinguishable in both groups, except for a slower retur n to pre-EDTA values in the SCGx group. Circulating parathyroid hormon e (PTH) levels were significantly higher, and the increase after EDTA slower, in SCGx rats. The results indicate that a modified calcium-PTH regulation followed chronic sympathetic denervation of parathyroid gl ands in rats.
