Sm. Cassidy et al., HIGH CRITICAL CURRENTS IN AG-BSCCO(2223) TAPES - ARE THE GRAIN-BOUNDARIES REALLY WEAK-LINKS, Journal of alloys and compounds, 195(1-2), 1993, pp. 503-506
The remarkable improvement of the superconducting properties of polycr
ystalline BSCCO(2223) when processed into Ag-clad tapes has been inves
tigated with magnetisation measurements. The tape bulk critical curren
t density has been compared directly with the intragrain critical curr
ent of the crystalline powder extracted from the tapes. The results sh
ow that two factors contribute to the excellent tape performance: Intr
agranular flux pinning is much stronger than might be expected from si
ngle crystal data, and the grain boundaries display no evidence of bei
ng 'weak-links'.
