K. Brandstetter et al., COMPARISON OF COLOR-CODED DUPLEX SONOGRAPHY AND SELECTIVE PENILE PHARMACOANGIOGRAPHY FOR THE EVALUATION OF ARTERIOGENIC IMPOTENCE, RoFo. Fortschritte auf dem Gebiete der Rontgenstrahlen und der neuenbildgebenden Verfahren, 158(5), 1993, pp. 405-409
42 patients with suspected vasculogenic impotence were examined via co
lour Duplex sonography. Penile vascular anatomy was mapped and peak ve
locity was determined in both cavernosal arteries before and after int
racorporeal injection of 15 mg papaverine and 0,5 mg regitine. In all
patients the results could be compared with selective penile pharmacoa
ngiography as the gold standard. In 34/42 patients colour Duplex sonog
raphy and angiography led to an identical evaluation of penile blood s
upply. 4 patients were classified false-negative and 4 patients false-
positive. Sensitivity and specificity were calculated for each side se
parately. Sensitivity was 82.4 % for left side angiogram and 83.3 % fo
r right side angiogram. Specificity was 88 % for left side angiogram a
nd 87.5 % for right side angiogram. Peak flow velocity was significant
ly diminished in pathological angiograms.
