D. Mole et al., THE DEVELOPMENT OF A STRATEGY FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF AUTOMATION INA BIOANALYTICAL LABORATORY, Journal of pharmaceutical and biomedical analysis, 11(3), 1993, pp. 183-190
Laboratory automation is equipment, instrumentation, software and tech
niques that are classified into four groups: instrument automation; co
mmunications; data to information conversion; and information manageme
nt. This new definition is necessary to understand the role that autom
ation can play in achieving the aims and objectives of a laboratory wi
thin its organization. To undertake automation projects effectively, a
laboratory automation strategy is outlined which requires an intimate
knowledge of an organization and the target environment to implement
individual automation projects.
