STRENGTHENING GLASSES AND CERAMICS

Cooking pots and nuclear reactors are two widely different application s of glasses. and ceramics. This breadth of utility requires materials whose properties can be tuned over a very wide range. Tuning can be a chieved by varying the composition of the materials or the processing parameters or both. Strength and fracture toughness are among the most important properties of these materials in considering them for appli cations. Factors influencing these properties are discussed.
