Abstract
We discuss virtual environments in the context of how to distribute ne twork communications, views, data, and processes while emphasizing tho se aspects critical to scaling environments. Systems that demand stron g data consistency, causality, and reliable communications while suppo rting real-time interaction are not likely to scale very well. Further more, geographically dispersed systems require high-speed, multicast c ommunication.
