The problem of stabilizing multi-machine power systems following elect
rical disturbances is considered and a method for generating stabilizi
ng signals is proposed. A two-level computational algorithm is develop
ed to determine the state-feedback controller, the stabilizing gains o
f which are implemented on-line and in a decentralized fashion. Simula
tion studies on a small power system indicate that the proposed method
ology does indeed produce stabilizing signals which are effective in i
mproving the dynamic behavior of the sample power system studied.
