Abstract
In the opening address of GIS/LIS '93 . Hungary, the following topics will be discussed: general information about Hungary (geographical, so cial, historical); an overview on the tradition of geographical inform ation manipulation in Hungary from the first map in the year 1528 to t he present, the current situation of geographical information in Hunga ry (the available geometrical and attribute data); and the role of Geo graphic Information System (GIS) technology in Hungary.
