Kl. Raheja, ESTIMATION OF TRANSMITTING ABILITIES AND GENETIC TREND IN SAHIWAL ANDHARIANA CATTLE, Indian Journal of Animal Sciences, 63(4), 1993, pp. 434-438
Best linear unbiased prediction procedure (BLUP) was used to estimate
transmitting abilities of sires and genetic trend in Hariana and Sahiw
al herds maintained under Uttar Pradesh Government Cattle Breeding Far
ms at Babugarh and Check Ganjaria. Four different BLUP models were als
o compared. The model including numerator relationship matrix and sire
genetic group had smallest variance of prediction error. The annual g
enetic trend was obtained from regression of weighted average of sires
' transmitting abilities for each year on year. Genetic trend in 305-d
ay first lactation milk yield of Sahiwal population during 1974 to 198
9 averaged 5.04 +/- 0.48 kg/per year. During 1969 to 1988 a negative g
enetic trend of -0.82 +/- 0.26 kg/year was observed in Hariana cows. A
nnual phenotypic trends in Sahiwal and Hariana herds were 13.08 +/- 3.
94 kg and 3.68 +/- 3.81 kg/year respectively.
