Abstract
The current observational scenario pertaining. to the study of low-mas s star formation is discussed together with the evolutionary sequence that such a scenario seems to suggest. The opportunities offered by th e spectrometers on board of the ISO satellite for improving our unders tanding of the involved physical processes are then discussed.
