Extraction of amines, alcohols, and sulfoxides from octane by acetonit
rile-water and acetonitrile-ethylene glycol mixtures has been studied
at 20 +/- 1-degrees-C. Mixtures of acetonitrile with water and glycol
exhibit pronounced synergism with respect to polar groups in the conce
ntration ranges 5-20 vol. % water and 5-40% ethylene glycol. At the sa
me time these mixtures are characterized by low and moderate repulsive
action toward hydrocarbon radicals of the extractable substances comp
ared with water; accordingly they may be used effectively for extracti
on recovery of the highest homologs of polar organic substances from h
ydrocarbon solutions with complete regeneration of the polar phase by
distilling off the acetonitrile.
