Extraction systems for recovering phenol from aqueous salt solutions w
ith mixtures of hydrophilic solvents have been studied. Guidelines hav
e been established for the extraction of phenol by mixtures of alkyl a
cetates with alcohols and ketones taking into account the influence on
the synergistic effect of the nature and solubility of the components
of the mixture and of the salting-out agents used. The most effective
mixtures contained extractants of limited solubility in water such as
methyl. acetate-methyl. ethyl ketone or ethyl acetate-1-butanol when
salting out with sodium choride.
