Ha. Anderson et al., SOME EFFECTS OF 50 YEARS OF AFFORESTATION ON SOILS IN THE KIRKTON-GLEN, BALQUHIDDER, Journal of hydrology, 145(3-4), 1993, pp. 439-451
Six soil profiles in Kirkton and Monachyle glens have been compared, w
ith the aim of detailing any changes in soil chemistry brought about b
y forest nutrient uptake. Poorly drained gley soils and freely drained
podzol profiles at Kirkton under 50-year-old Scots pine and Sitka spr
uce, and under clear-felled Sitka and European larch of the same age,
were compared with their recently planted (P90) counterparts in Monach
yle. Patterns of depletion or repletion of exchangeable cations can be
explained in terms of soil hydrogeochemistry.
