We have observed P Cygni with a spectral resolution of 12,000 in the w
avelength range 4050 angstrom < lambda < 9050 angstrom with a fiber-li
nked echelle spectrograph. By averaging many spectra we achieved a S/N
-ratio of up to 2,000. We present a spectral atlas in the range from 4
050 to 9050 angstrom with line identifications. Apart from the dominan
t P Cygni-type lines pure absorption features (telluric and interstell
ar lines and interstellar bands) and a number of pure emission lines w
ere identified. Two groups of pure emission lines are discernible: The
forbidden lines ([FeII], [NiII], [TiII], [FeIII], [NII]) and lines of
some SiII-, FeIII- and NII multiplets which are supposedly due to a f
luorescence excitation mechanism.
