H. Kleykamp, THERMODYNAMICS OF THE SYSTEMS OF THE PLATINUM METALS WITH OTHER TRANSITION-METALS .1. INTEGRAL DATA, Journal of nuclear materials, 201, 1993, pp. 193-217
A critical assessment is presented of the integral thermodynamic data
of about 190 intermetallic compounds of 62 binary systems of the plati
num metals Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir and Pt with other transition metals. The
Gibbs energies of formation were obtained mainly from emf measurement
s on galvanic cells or vapour pressure experiments by the Knudsen meth
od. The enthalpies of formation were evaluated from calorimetric work.
The compilations of the results as a function of the temperature incl
ude graphs and numerical data. Empirical enthalpy of formation-entropy
of formation correlations and calculations of the excess entropy cont
ributions of the intermetallic compounds by use of their heat capaciti
es at low temperatures are outlined. Relationships between enthalpies
of formation and lattice contractions of different structure types of
the compounds are given. The experimental results of the enthalpies of
formation are compared with the quantities predicted by the Miedema m
odel. The particularities of the actinides and the influence of differ
ent crystal structures of the compounds are discussed.
