Synthetic male sex attractants have been optimized for 3 Orthosia spec
ies, all of them potential orchard pests. To detect the occurence of t
hese species, baits consisting of a dose of 1000 mug of a 20:1 mixture
of (Z)-11-hexadecen-1-ol and (Z)-11-hexadecenal; of 1000 mug of a 100
:1 mixture of (Z)-11-hexadecenal and (Z)-9-tetradecenal; and of a dose
of 1000-100 mug of a 20:1 mixture of (Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate an (Z
)-9-tetradecenyl acetate are recommended for O. munda, O. stabilis and
O. cruda, respectively.
