Complex focal seizures are responsible for a broad spectrum of manifes
tations which differ from those usually seen in epilepsy and can simul
ate a large number of psychiatric disorders. Two such misleading cases
are reported. One of the patients had panic attacks leading to suicid
al attempts and the other had a several-year history of a dementia-lik
e disorder. It is important to recognize complex focal epilepsy since
effective treatments are available.
